Column By: STEPHEN DURHAM / RPW – EPPING, NH – The year 2020 was not an easy year many tracks across New England with the battle of the pandemic and lack of fans.
“It was definitely an off-season last year, but we made the best of thing, we missed having the race fan in the seats here though,” Jeremy Hedges, second year general manager of Star under the ownership of Bobby Webber Jr.
On Friday afternoon, the Epping, New Hampshire racetrack was roaring alive with open practice to all divisions, from the headline division of the 350 Supermodifieds, late models, six shooters, legend cars, and midgets.
“We’re just really looking forward to getting back to racing here, getting fans back in the stands, and just acclimated again. Just want to get a full season of racing in,” explains Hedges.
First green flags of the year will drop at Star Speedway today, April 24th with the Spring Bunny Brawl, featuring the Woody’s Street Stocks, slingshots, pure stocks, classic lites, and to top things off, four cylinders endur0!
Perfect weather is forecasted for racing on Saturday with temperatures reaching into the upper 60s and even into the 70s in spots, with plenty of sunshine!
The staff at Star Speedway have been working hard in the off-season with getting the facility spruced up for the 2021 campaign. A new tech area is being prepared to be paved, and a new scaling area as well.
