Story By: ASHLEY MCCUBBIN / OSCAAR – INNISFIL, ONT – The 2020 season for OSCAAR is about to get a little bigger as they have added a fifth date to their schedule with a trip to Sunset Speedway.
All three divisions within the ranks will be in action at the 3/8-mile oval on September 19, competing alongside the T.Q. Can-Am Midgets.
The Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modifieds presented by Scott Reinhart Trailer Sales Ltd., Touchwood Cabinets, and The Fyre Place & Patio Shop will hope to continue the positive momentum after thrilling the fans with a close battle to start their 2020 season at Jukasa Motor Speedway.
The Innisfil-based oval has played host to 25 previous Modified races, with nine different drivers finding themselves in victory lane. Notably, Gary McLean is the all-time win leader with 14 victories, but Andy Kamrath was able to score three wins last season alone at Sunset.
It is worth noting that if all goes according to plan and the Modifieds officially run their next scheduled event at Flamboro Speedway, the Sunset event on September 19 will mark their 100th feature for the open-wheel superstars. A pretty neat historical mark to note in the midst of OSCAAR’s 30th Anniversary season, and after witnessing the OSCAAR Modifieds take their first ever green flag in 2012 there as well.
The Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rods presented by Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park are no stranger to thrills at Sunset Speedway, with a couple classic three-way battles still making highlight reels from the past two seasons. Overall, there have been nine events ran at Sunset Speedway, with Dan Archibald and Tyler Hawn each scoring four victories, while Billy Alderson Jr. won Fall Velocity last season.
The Living Lighting OSCAAR Pro Sprints have always put on stellar shows at Sunset Speedway, with the wide track allotting for impressive three-wide, sometimes four-wide battles for position. The thrills will be even higher this time around, as it will be a combined event with Outlaw Midgets racing against the Pro Sprints. The first round of the Ontario Midget Challenge took place at Sauble speedway this past weekend, with Jaden Riddell dominating en route to the checkered.
Notably, there have been nine races ran at Sunset Speedway with Daniel Hawn victorious in eight of those. James Stanley was able to break his strangle hold on the track with a win last season.
The T.Q. Can-Am Midgets will be hoping to put on a show, as they celebrate the club’s 55th Anniversary of high-speed close competition. They were in action earlier this year at Flamboro Speedway, with Darren Dryden out-running Daniel Hawn on a couple late race restarts for the victory.
Each of the OSCAAR classes has already been in action, running two events a piece with the Modifieds and Hot Rods at Jukasa Motor Speedway, followed by the Hot Rods and Pro Sprints at Sauble Speedway. The Modifieds will be in action at Flamboro Speedway on September 12, followed by the Hot Rods joining the Modifieds back at Jukasa Motor Speedway on September 26.
With the current government regulations, only 100 spectators will be allowed to be in attendance for the event. Details will be released in the coming weeks in that regard.
