Story By: JIM CLARKE / PETERBOROUGH SPEEDWAY – PETERBOROUGH, ONT – Weather issues have forced the promotional team at Peterborough Speedway to make some changes to its 2024 line-up.
One of the most recent revisions to this year’s schedule concerns the CNAF Autism Awareness Night, originally slated to be part of the Saturday, June 22nd agenda.
“Kid’s Race – a promotional event in support of the Canadian National Autism Foundation – has been a fixture on our schedule for several seasons,” said track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse. “We’re happy to have been able to work with Tina Fougere and the CNAF team to reschedule this program. Tickets that were purchased for the original date will be honoured for Saturday, July 13th.”
On the track, Pure Country 105 presents the Mid-Season Bash, featuring a 50-lap main event for the Ontario Outlaw Super Late Models, presented by Larry Crowe of Crowe’s Gas Bar, plus the home track Bone Stock, Mini Stock, Renegade Truck and Late Model divisions, with kid’s rides as the intermission feature. The night’s line-up will also include make-up Bone Stock and Late Model features from June 8th. Grandstand gates open at 5:00, with the first Great Canadian RV green flag at 5:30.
After a rainout in 2023, the Ontario Outlaw Super Late Model teams are excited to be returning to Peterborough Speedway. Following the first events on this year’s schedule, the group has seen a pair of victories by Shawn Chenoweth and a single win by J.R. Fitzpatrick. Glenn Watson, Dario Capirchio and Fitzpatrick hold down the top-3 positions in the point standings.
Hometown fans will see a familiar face in Saturday night’s starting line-up, as Port Hope, Ontario’s Marlie Owen takes advantage of a night off from the Super Stock division and will make her second Outlaw Super Late Model start of 2024 in the family-owned ride. Always a crowd favourite at the local oval on Mount Pleasant Road, Owen finished 6th in her debut earlier in the season at Sunset Speedway.
