Story By: KYLE SOUZA / AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY – AUBURNDALE, FL – Showdown Series officials announced today an incentive for 602 Modified teams who plan to attend the upcoming Auburndale Speedway races in February.
The 602 Modifieds will compete in double feature events on Thursday, February 8, both set for 30 laps. On Friday, February 9, there is one, 30-lap race scheduled.
All of this Auburndale Speedway racing is part of a full weekend that begins on Thursday and goes through Saturday. Many teams who compete at Auburndale will then make the trip to New Smyrna Speedway for the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing beginning on February 11.
Announced today, the purse for the event is eligible to increase for the winner if there are a certain amount of cars on property. If there are over 30 cars on property, Thursday’s twin 30-lap feature races for the 602 Modifieds will both pay $750 to win. If more than 24 cars show up for Friday’s racing events, the 602 Modified 30-lap event will pay $1,000 to win.
“We wanted to increase the winner’s purse if we can get the cars there, as we feel the fans of Auburndale deserve a great field of cars,” Brad Hockday, promoter of the event with the Showdown Series, said. “These 602 Modified machines have become a hot division across the East Coast and they often have a bunch of young, rising stars trying to make a name for themselves. All three of these races at Auburndale will be ones that fans will not want to miss.”
No Modified teams (excluding the Whelen Modified Tour) will be able to park at New Smyrna Speedway until early on Sunday morning, February 11. This means that teams can compete in the Auburndale Speedway events and have plenty of time to make it across the state.
The tire rule for the event is posted online. The rule will be six race tires for the 602 Modifieds with the F45 by Hoosier, and eight race tires for the Tour-Type Modifieds running the M20 & M30. Practice tires allotment is unlimited for the event, but teams need to let the management know in order for Hoosier to have a proper amount on site for the event.
