Story By: RACE OF CHAMPIONS – LANCASTER, NY – The Race of Champions Modified Series will make its second of three visits of the 2022 season at Lancaster Motorplex this coming Saturday, August 13, 2022.
The Ol’ Boy Cup has become a tradition for Race of Champions Modified Series participants.
Bill Colton, Jr., known as the “Ol’ Boy” played a role in many of their careers over time as well as introducing the Thermal Foam blocks, which have helped save drivers and racecars during impacts at Lancaster and other speedways throughout the region.
Mike Leaty of Williamson, N.Y., won the Series first visit to Lancaster in early June. Zane Zeiner of Bath, Pa., won the Series most recent event at Holland (N.Y.) International Speedway. Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, N.Y. a past Series champion and many time winner at Lancaster is looking forward to next Saturday.
“We’re really looking forward to getting to Lancaster,” stated Emerling, who will be back behind the wheel of the Advantage Trucking 14. “We’ve been fast and got a win at Spencer and we thought we had something for them at Holland but we had a motor break. It was unfortunate. Hopefully, we can turn things around at Lancaster next Saturday night, we’re looking forward to it and honoring the Ol’ Boy in Bill Colton, Jr., it should be a great night.”
The Race of Champions Modified Series will be joined by Lancaster Motorplex weekly divisions.
The fan gates open at 4:00 pm, with racing set for 6:30 pm and the Race of Champions Modified Series “Ol’ Boy Cup 60” is tentatively scheduled for 8:30 pm.
FRIDAY NIGHT, AUGUST 19 TO BE FIRST-EVER “HARVEST FEST” AT SPENCER SPEEDWAY
WILLIAMSON, NY – An idea coming to “fruition” is how the Friday, August 19 event at Spencer Speedway in Williamson, N.Y., came together. Race of Champions director of Timing & Scoring, Zachary Skotnicki had the idea of doing a “Harvest Fest” event at Spencer Speedway and after a discussion with Williamson Apple Blossom president, Carl Zarcone, the first-ever “Harvest Fest” night at the races was born.
B.C. Ameele Fruit Farms of Williamson, N.Y., will be providing the apples, while apple juice will be available for the children in attendance. This will be setup next to the Williamson Apple Blossom stand in the midway area of the “Food Truck Frenzy”.
In addition to the “Harvest Fest” activities, kids and parents will once again be able to partake in Face Painting from Arlene’s Costumes. Arlene’s Costumes is “the official Airbrush Face Painters of the Buffalo Bills, Rochester Lancers, Rochester Amerks, Flower City Union Soccer Team and the Rochester Red Wings” and have worked with the Buffalo Sabres and Bandits. Arlene’s has participated in the City of Rochester’s New Year’s Eve Event, Watkins Glen International with Genesee Brewery, the Town of Irondequoit’s 4th of July Festival and the Town of Greece Holiday Celebration along with doing various corporate and school events, private birthday and holiday parties and have been the exclusive Airbrush Face Painters at the Lilac Festival for nearly 30 years.
The Arlene’s process uses vibrant color theatrical make up that is applied to 80-100 people in an hour. It is hypoallergenic and removes with liquid soap or wears off in a couple days. We apply the make up with the use of air brushes and compressor using stencils. Arlene first appeared.
Also, two other special items of interest will take place on Friday, August 19 as the Sodus Microd Club will put on their demonstration and display. The youth racing organization in Sodus, N.Y., is a part of many events coupled with the Race of Champions.
It will also be the true bicycle race of the year at Spencer. Riders will be separated by age group and take part in races down the frontstretch prior to racing action beginning Friday, August 19. Winners will have their photos taken in the first victory lane session of the night with the race winners.
In addition to all the exciting activities there will also be racing. The make up feature for the Race of Champions Super Stock Series from July 1 will be on the cardd along with another $1,000-to-win feature. The ever competitive Race of Champions Sportsman Modified Series will race for 35-laps and $2,000-to-win.Race of Champions Rocket Performance 602 Sportsman Modified Series; Wilibert’s U-Pull It Four Cylinders and Wilbert’s U-Pull It Super Six divisions will round out the racing card.
The “Food Truck Frenzy” featuring local food trucks and tastes from the area will also make its return to the track.
