
Column By: TOM WENNER / RPW – SCHNECKSVILLE, PA – Young racing talent Tanner VanDoren is set to take on the best of the ATQMRA sanctioned TQ field at the Evergreen Speedway on Sunday, May 15th.
The Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association powered by VP Racing Fuels is best known for their off-season indoor racing series. In the active outdoor months of the racing season the ATQMRA club visits some of the best asphalt race tracks in the northeast providing outstanding wheel to wheel winged TQ racing action.
Legendary venues like Wall Stadium, New London-Waterford, Mahoning Valley, and Evergreen Speedway.
The opener for the ATQMRA club occurred on May 3rd and Buddy Sload won over Joey Bailey at Wall Stadium. The ATQMRA club will visit Evergreen Speedway on Sunday, May 15th and Sunday, September 11th during the 2022 season. Both Evergreen events will see the young Tanner VanDoren steering the MJ12 Motorsports Racing Team TQ.
Tanner VanDoren has been spending the early part of the ’22 season racing on the dirt tracks. Tanner started the season in Florida racing the Sunshine Swing before coming back to the northeast and settling into a regular schedule of dirt track Modified Racing.
Tanner competes weekly at the Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, NY steering the Keith Hoffman Racing 6over Big Block Modified. On selective Friday nights he can be caught steering the family owned TVD Racing #22 at the Big Diamond Speedway in Spec 358 Modified racing.
You can also find the young VanDoren traveling the PA, NY and Delaware race tracks chasing the Brett Deyo Short Track Super Series events.
MJ12 Motorsports is owned by Tara & Michael Murray based out of NJ. The #12 is a Lafler TQ Chassis powered by Dave Orange Racing Engines. The team raced in the ’22 VP Racing Fuels Indoor season and was in the Top 10 in points with Mike Bednar steering the powerful #12 coming into the final Syracuse event.
Bednar scored a top 10 finish on Friday night in Syracuse while suffering an unfortunate engine failure that caused the team to withdraw on the final night of racing. Mike Bednar scored Top 10 finishes in both the Allentown and Atlantic City indoor racing events. The Dent Zones LLC Lafler #12 TQ has been fully refreshed and is now ready for the outdoor ATQMRA racing action.
Last fall, Murray and VanDoren teamed up for TVD’s 1st ever run on the pavement at the Bethel Motor Speedway. VanDoren qualified in the heat race and started last in the 15 Lap main event. Tanner drove from last starting spot up to 5th while most of the race was run under green flag conditions. Murray is a veteran TQ owner having fielded cars for several seasons.
On weekends when not racing his own TQ, you can find Murray in the pits at the Orange County Fair Speedway helping the VanDoren Hoffman Racing Team. You will also find Murray in the pits helping Timmy Solomito with his Nascar Tour Modified race car on selective racing weekends.
Evergreen Speedway located in St. Johns, PA just outside of Wilkes-Barre is a 1/3 mile asphalt oval speedway in operation from April to November each season.
Evergreen Speedway has been in operation since the early 1970’s hosting some of the finest asphalt modified, late models, factory stocks, TQ Midgets, and 4 Cylinders.
The event scheduled for Sunday, May 15th will feature Asphalt Tour Modifieds racing a 75-Lap Main event, Street Stocks, 4 Cylinders and ATQMRA TQ’s. Pits Open at 1030am / Grandstands at Noon / Racing at 200p.
