Story By: RACE OF CHAMPIONS – CHEMUNG, NY – The Race of Champions will once again be the proud presenter of the “Night before the Glen”, Rod Spalding Classic 75 for the Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series and the Tribute to Ed McGuire 51 for the Race of Champions Super Stock Series along with the Race of Champions Four Cylinder Dash Series at the Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome on Saturday, August 7.
The Modified Series will compete in the Rod Spalding Classic honor of the late and great driver, whose injuries spurred the development of the Spalding Foundation for Injured Drivers, headed by Betty Sherwood.
Ryan Preece of Berlin, Ct., who races in the NASCAR Cup Series, will also be in competition in the Modified Series event. Preece will also have bring his t-shirts and diecasts and have them for sale in the grandstand area.
The Race of Champions Super Stock Series will compete in the “Tribute to Ed McGuire” which will now pay $1251.11 to the winner. The 51-lap race has become a great tradition for the for the series. McGuire’s career spanned several seasons in the Late Model category at Shangri-La Speedway.
The Spalding Foundation for Injured Drivers will also be recognized as part of the tradition of this night. There will be a fundraising part of the night which will be announced later. The Spalding Foundation has played a role in every “Rod Spalding Classic” at Chemung Speedrome.
The Race of Champions FOAR Score Four Cylinder Dash Series returns to Chemung for a 25-lap event to round out the card. The race will now pay $533.33-to-win and $60-to-start.
