RPW Column By: JESSY MILLER / RPW – DARLINGTON, SC – The NASCAR Cup Series was set to have two races at Darlington. Sunday’s race which Harvick won, and the other on Wednesday night. It was an eventful race, filled with cautions one of which was Kyle Busch getting into Chase Elliott with just over thirty laps to the checkers. After the race Ky. Busch pleaded innocence, saying he misjudged the distance and made a mistake. Fans were not happy with the development to say the least.
The race saw many lead changes, Clint Bowyer won the first two stages, but Denny was there when the rain began to fall. The race was already under yellow for Ky. Busch and Elliott’s squabble, and then the rain came. There was an extended yellow, and the cars were pulled down pit road. The race went red and shortly after the race was called.
As Hamlin climbed from his No. 11 FedEx Toyota, he had a facemask with an image of his own smile on it. It’s nice in a way to see NASCAR drivers still have humor even during times like these.
Hamlin became the 14th driver to win three times at Darlington, in his post race interview he was asked what it was like to have his face back on the trophy again. To which Hamlin replied, “I mean why wouldn’t you want this mug on the trophy again?” and pointed to his mask.
