Story By: JOHN DOUGLAS / RPW – MARTINSVILLE, VA – Martinsville Speedway released a statement late on Monday afternoon outlining the future of their facility during this crisis.
The statement outlined both NASCAR and the Speedway’s future plans as the COVID-19 pandemic worsens:
“In a matter of minutes NASCAR will announce that it has postponed events through May 3rd in accordance with safety protocols recommended by the CDC. This decision was made to ensure the health and safety of our fans, competitors, partners and all those employed across our sport.
As we’ve all seen, the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation is developing rapidly across our country and abroad. We remain in ongoing discussions with public health officials and medical experts and will continue to monitor this situation closely.
As key members of the sport, we are committed to providing you with frequent and transparent updates as decisions are being reached. This is an uncharted time for our nation and our sport, and we appreciate your continued support.
At this time, our goal is to complete a full schedule and return to racing at Martinsville Speedway in early May. As soon as we have any additional updates to share related to our race schedule, we will do so.
We understand the concern and stress caused by this situation and we want to provide support, where needed, however we can.
We will continue to share updates as we have them.”
