Story By: JIM CLARKE / PETERBOROUGH SPEEDWAY – PETERBOROUGH, ONT. CA – With close to 40 different teams chasing the same piece of racing pie, fans can always expect to see some exciting action at the venue known as Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval.
After 2 years in the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock division at Peterborough Speedway, Kyle Novis is showing that he has the perfect combination of talent and equipment to run with the best.
In 2018, the 28-year-old from Little Britain, Ontario – whose father Angelo and Cousin Chris also compete at the track – was 13th in final rundown. At the 2019 awards banquet, he received accolades for an 8th place point finish and was voted the Most Sportsmanlike driver in the class. The new season is scheduled to take its initial green flag Saturday, May 16th and the driver is hoping the trend of gaining ground on the frontrunners will continue.
“We’ll be running the same car that we used to finish-out the schedule last year,” said Kyle Novis. “With every night at the track, I’ve felt my confidence grow and I think this could be the season where everyone takes notice of the #45 car. I can’t wait to get back to the track and show the fans what this team is all about.”
Even with his limited on track experience, Novis – who works as a truck and coach technician – still gets the most from his time at the track and says his performance is based on the amount of effort he’s able to give to the car during the week in the shop and once he gets to the speedway on Saturday. He calls racing a ‘me’ sport and loves the time he gets to spend with the great people he’s met and friends he has made in such a short time.
“I need to thank all the people who’ve helped me throughout the season,” Kyle Novis said. “From something as small as giving me advice to spending time in the shop getting the car ready to go to the track. The biggest ‘thank you’ has to go to my wife Kristy, along with our daughter Penelope. No matter how much I drive them crazy with racing talk and countless hours in the garage or at the track, they’re behind me 100% and are my biggest supporters when it comes to doing something that I love.”
Kyle Novis – who so far has only raced at Peterborough Speedway – says he’s looking to add a first main event win to his resume and eventually move-up to a higher class. In his spare time, he enjoys working on anything with an engine, attending car shows, spending time with family and friends and playing hockey and golf.
The new season at Peterborough Speedway is slated to get underway Saturday, May 16th and for 2020, the #45 Bone Stock will carry sponsorship support Nix Tire & Auto, J.A.W.S. Services, H & M Production Framing Inc., Highlands Propane and 12fifty9 Graphics.
