RPW Column By: JOHN DOUGLAS JR. / RPW – NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL – The New Smyrna World Series Orange Blossom 100 was the final major event of the asphalt short track portion of Speedweek in Florida. Major players across the Super Late Model landscape such as Stephen Nasse, Bubba Pollard and Ty Majeski.
The latter found victory lane for the 100th time in his career in Super Late Model action on Saturday night.
Majeski’s week started off with a 50 lap run in his Super Late Model on night number four, with a strong second place finish in the quasi-practice session race for the Wisconsin native.
Friday night saw the young star at the big track. Daytona International Speedway’s NASCAR Truck Series event was full of promise for Majeski. Unfortunately things went askew as Majeski ended his race on his roof after contact sent his truck over, sliding from the tri-oval into turns one and two.
Majeski’s Saturday night at New Smyrna was a chance to get some redemption and he seized the opportunity with a well timed pass on Anthony Sergi, taking his No. 91 iRacing Chevrolet to the top side of the speedway in turn three. The car stuck well to the racing surface and bounded off the fourth turn with the advantage he wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the way.
Majeski was all smiles in victory lane as he told a strong crowd of Super Late Model fans, “We worked on it and found a couple things wrong with the rear end on Tuesday night, obviously had a rough one last night (Friday), really wish we could’ve finished that race we had a good opportunity there (Truck Series). We came back, rebounded really strong tonight.”
He continued, “Man, I was losing the brakes there when I was racing with (Anthony) Sergi there. I was trying to manage it and it was going all the way to the floor. I was about to actually let the nine by and I took a desperation shot to the top and it stuck. I was just pumping the brakes really hard trying to get the thing to hang in there. The brakes came back during that caution. The car was pretty decent tonight and we got it done.”
Majeski will be competing in the NASCAR Truck sEries full time in 2020 and if he can replicate any of his successes in the Super Late Model ranks which now includes 100 wins, it won’t be long before many more people know this young racer’s name.
