Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI MOTORSPORTS PROMOTIONS – OSWEGO, NY – In just his fifth start with the International Supermodified Association, 17-year old Tyler Thompson scored his first career ISMA top five finish at one of the fastest tracks on the schedule, Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.
Competing in a stout 23-car field to conclude the ISMA season, Thompson started the 50-lap main event from the outside of the first row, quickly settling in behind seasoned veterans Kyle Edwards and Ben Seitz.
From there, Thompson battled back and forth with some of Supermodified racing’s best, landing with a fifth-place finish behind Seitz, Edwards, Michael Barnes and Dan Bowes.
“I’m happy with a fifth,” Thompson told ISMA PR Director, Carol Haynes. “I think the car is a little too free for us which is perfectly fine. It could be a lot worse than it was. So, I’d say I’m really happy with a top five. I loved the track. It’s a beautiful place. The track, the pits, everything else. It’s definitely the real deal.”
The Thompson finale is the final Supermodified event of the season for Jason Simmons Racing and Thompson.
Before traveling to Connecticut on Saturday and Sunday, Thompson also took part in the final DIRTcar Sportsman Series Fall Championship event and Brockville Ontario Speedway in Canada on Friday.
After qualifying through a strong list of competitors, Thompson rolled to a 13th place finish to find himself 16th in the overall championship standings of more than 400 drivers.
Thompson will next take on the dirt as a part of the Driven Racing Oil World Short Track Championship at the Dirt Track at Charlotte on October 25-27, where he is the defending champion of the Sportsman All-Star Invitational.
