Column By: BRITTANY NUTILE / RPW – THOMPSON, CT – The K&N Pro Series East Throwback Race at Thompson Motorsports Park is one of the best races of the season for K&N series and at Thompson. The drivers and crew brings back paint schemes from the cars and drivers that use to drive the series when it was called the Busch North series.
Anthony Alfredo is honoring Sterling Marlin in the Number 40 Silver Bullet. The team Anthony is on MDM Motorsports used to field Sterling Marlin’s Cup cars, including the Silver Bullet. Anthony made his debut at Thompson on Saturday night and racing the first time in hometown. In an interview with Anthony he said he was very excited to be racing with all his friends and family in attendance. He finished 6th on Saturday night and was happy the car came home in one piece but, was disappointed because he had a fast car during the race and at one point in the race had the fastest car.
Colin Garrett had the paint scheme of driver Russ Wheeler, from the 1990 racing movie Days of Thunder. Colin even had a replica driving suit of the one Russ Wheeler wore in the movie.
Chase Cabre had the legendary paint scheme from Geoff Bodine. Chase started the race 11th and finished 5th.
Ryan Vargas honored the driver “Terrible” Tommy Ellis. Tommy Ellis got his nickname from hard nose and old school racing. Ryan started 12th and he ended up finishing 10th tonight.
Ruben Garcia Jr. had the paint scheme of Ruben Pardo. Pardo was the first Mexican driver to win in NASCAR. He won on a road course at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut in 2006. Ruben Garcia Jr. said that Pardo and him are good friends and still race against him in Mexico. He grew up with Pardo as a mentor and a friend and was honored to race the paint scheme on Saturday night for the race. Garcia Jr. started 2nd and finished 9th after spinning out while trying to get the lead from Spencer Davis.
Spencer Davis drove the infamous #13 Ted Christopher car for the throwback race. This throwback paint scheme was something all the fans and everyone that went to the race was anticipating. Spencer had looked up to TC since he was a little kid and has gotten to drive one of TC’s modified tour car last year. He met Teddy when he raced the tour for Hillbilly racing with the number 79. They had become very good friends and he said it’s a great honor to drive the number 13 at Thompson for the throwback race. Spencer started on the pole for the race and finished 4th.
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will be back in action this upcoming Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway
