Story By: RACE OF CHAMPIONS – WILLIAMSON, NY – Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, N.Y., started 9th, drove to the front, made the most of restart against Mike Leaty of Williamson, N.Y., and went on to win the 35-lap Race of Champions Sportsman Modified Series feature at Spencer Speedway in WillIamson, N.Y., on Friday evening. It was Hossfeld’s second win of the 2019 season in the Sportsman Series.
“These races are a lot of fun for us,” stated Hossfeld from victory lane. “We really had a good car tonight and that’s a credit to all of my guys. They had it pretty good. Mike (Leaty) gave us a run for our money and I really thought he might have something for us, but it worked out and here were are. I have to thank everyone that helps make this possible.”
Matt Lees of Ontario, N.Y., started on the pole and led the first few circuits before Andy Lewis of Ontario, N.Y., took over the top spot.
Lewis built a commanding advantage that was erased by a caution. Mike Leaty of Williamson, N.Y., moved past Lewis and held on to the top spot before losing the position to Hossfeld on a restart.
Leaty ended up second with Eddie Hawkins of Walworth, N.Y., third. Daryl Lewis, Jr., of Ontario, N.Y., made his way to fourth and Amy Catalano of Ontario, N.Y., rounded out the top-five.
Andy Coucilava of Perry, N.Y., won a spirited battle in the Wilbert’s U Pull-It Super Six Series. Coucilava fended off Brandon Allen and Brian Hallet.
Tommy Barron of Ontario, N.Y., dominated the Race of Champions Super Stock Series competition winning his qualifying race and leading all 30-laps to win the Tribute to Steve Ross “30”.
Jacob Gustafson of Webster, N.Y., captured the win the Race of Champions Four Cylinder Dash Series race. Gustafson held off Dave Reiber and Corey Copeland. Jason Anasiewicz (fourth) and Bob Bogner (fifth) rounded out the top-five.
The season concludes this coming Friday at Spencer Speedway with the running of the 60-lap, $6000-to-win Maynard Troyer Classic
