Tour Type Modifieds Headline Action-packed Sunday Slate at Evergreen Raceway on Fairway Chevrolet Day
COLUMN BY: Dino Oberto – EVERGREEN RACEWAY – BUTLER TOWNSHIP, PA – The mighty Tour Type Modifieds return to Evergreen Raceway this coming Sunday afternoon, June 21, headlining what will be an action-packed day of racing at the 1/3-mile paved oval in St. Johns on Fairway Chevrolet Day.
Race time is 2:00 pm.
Sunday will mark the third appearance for the Tour Type Modifieds this season. On May 3 Paulie Hartwig III passed Kyle Sisco nine laps into the feature and then cruised to his 16th overall win at Evergreen. On May 30 Roger Coss had a race-long battle fending off Bryce Bailey en-route to scoring the verdict that day.
Hartwig and Coss will be joined by a strong field of contenders, setting the stage for another competitive Tour Type Modified showdown at Evergreen.
The Harry’s U-Pull-It Street Stocks, Rookie 602 Crate Modifieds, Himmer Graphics Four Cylinders, Rotten-and-Forgotten and McNulty Funeral Home Four Cylinder Novice are also on the card.
The Street Stocks have had three different winners in as many races thus far with defending champ Gordie Buchman, Scott Adams and Bobby Kibler Jr., collecting checkered flags and although he has yet to win, Mike Pollack is the current point leader thanks in part to his reeling off all top-3 finishes in each race to date.
When Caitlyn Makarewicz won the most recent Rookie 602 Crate Modified feature on May 30, she made track history as the first female to win a Modified feature. Sarabeth Mesko will be looking to become the second lady racer to do so come Sunday in the newly formed class for aspiring Modified racers.
The always competitive Four Cylinders will head into Sunday’s race with Jared Frye leading the points and gunning for a second victory as well. He’ll have Robert McNulty and last week’s winner Tyler Skordensky to deal with as they are second and third in the standings respectively and not to mention the entire rest of the class who are all capable of pulling off a victory.
You may not find a more tightknit group of racers than that of the Rotten-and-Forgotten which are made up of family members and close friends. And speaking of family members the Young’s Josh and Jordon are cleaning up right now. Jordon was the winner on Opening Day, May 3, while his dad, Josh, swept the weekend of May 30 & 31.
Shane Elliott earned his first Four Cylinder Novice win on May 30 and established himself as the driver to watch. Even so, the class remains highly competitive. All of these developing racers show strong pace and anyone of them easily could break through for a win based on how evenly matched the field is.
