Fan Appreciation Night Opens June Schedule at Peterborough Speedway

Dan Kimmerly and reigning track champion Alex Dallaire showed the way as the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock pack hit the track for a main event that was stretched to 25 laps after a fan vote during Fan Appreciation autograph session. Dallaire grabbed the early race lead, with hard-charging Jacob Stavropoulos taking the runner-up spot. An issue on the front stretch with 6 laps complete brought the field back together and saw Dallaire, Stavropoulos and Chris Ephgrave locked in a 3-car battle for the lead. The front runners encountered the tail-end of the field with just over a dozen laps complete, but Dallaire held on for the win. Stavropoulos, Ephgrave, Shawn Solomon and Kimmerly chased the winner across the line.

With Stephen Bierworth and Adam Chatten on the front row, Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck teams took to the track with 20 laps to settle the score. As quickly as the race started, the pace was slowed when officials ruled the No. 49 jumped the initial start and was penalized a row in the starting line-up. Kyle Gordon used the outside line and moved into 4th spot on lap 4 and was running 2nd a couple of laps later. A crash in the 2nd turn brought out a yellow flag with 9 laps complete and another incident on the front stretch brought the field back together for another run with just over a handful of laps remaining. A pair of nearly identical trucks was in control as Adam Chatten and Jack Dallin brought the pick-up pack back to the green flag. The teammate battle was interrupted by Bierworth who became the meat in the Chatten-Dallin sandwich at the checkered flag. Scott Jacobs and Ethan Switzer completed the top 5 spots.

Rob Crick and Coleridge Phinnemore led the way as the SwitchTire Mini Stocks headed out for a 20-lap main event. Christen Lavalle grabbed the early race lead, with Kent Missons, Cameron McGlashan and Aundrea Lusk close behind. With the lead pack taking care of things at the front, James Townsend was charging through the field. The No. 14 car took 4th with 5 laps on the scoreboard and moved into the runner-up position with a pass entering the tight 3rd turn a handful of laps later. He’d take control of things a couple of laps later to record his 2nd straight win. Christen Lavalle, McGlashan, John Lavalle and Missons completed the top 5.

Former rookie of the year winner Ethan Thompson and multi-time group champion John Baker Jr. brought the field to the green flag for the rain delayed 20 lap GEN-3 Electrical OMRS SportsMod season opener. JBJ used the outside line to take the lead in the early going, with the race slowed by a yellow flag for an incident in the 2nd turn. Baker Jr. maintained the lead on the restart, with Dan McHattie – in a freshly minted No. 4 machine – taking the runner-up spot with 3 laps complete, as the No. 77 of Brad Stevenson took the 3rd position. The event’s final yellow flag – for an issue on the backstretch – with 4 laps remaining opened the door for Dan McHattie. Wheeling the new piece – built over the winter at the team’s nearby shop in Cavan, Ontario – grabbed the lead from Baker Jr. and held on for the win in his first start with the GEN-3 Electrical OMRS SportsMods. JBJ was 2nd, with Stevenson, Kyle Gordon and Chad Strawn completing the top 5.

Current point leader Bailey Jacobs and Herb Walters shared the Super Stock qualifying heat wins. Jeffrey Oakes and Jacob Stavropoulos split the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock opening rounds. Adam Chatten and Kyle Gordon won the night’s Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck heats. Cameron McGlashan and last week’s feature winner James Townsend claimed the SwitchTire Mini Stock qualifiers. GEN-3 Electrical OMRS SportsMod heat races went to John Baker Jr., Ethan Thompson, Dan McHattie and Kyle Gordon.

All finishing positions are unofficial and subject to scoring review and post race inspection.

Bullring bullet points: Provincial racing veteran Shawn McWhirter filled in for Coltin Everingham at the controls of the No. 48 Super Stock…Andrew Massey was unable to start the Super Stock ‘A’ after suffering mechanical issues in his No. 83 ride…Stacy Switzer and Kyle Gordon made contact during the Renegade Truck feature. Both trucks were heavily damaged. Drivers were checked by track emergency staff on scene and released. Saturday, June 20th the Renegade Truck division headliner will be 25 laps…The Kinsmen Club 50/50 draw made another race fan happy, with a $862. payout to Peterborough’s Angie Dart…A strong crowd saw a full night of racing – including a Fan Appreciation Autograph session and a Supernova Fireworks display – and were still on their way home before 10:00.

Saturday, June 13th Peterborough Speedway hosts the season’s first must attend event. KOD Disposal presents 175 laps for the APC Late Models and a 50-lap headliner for the Dayco Super Stocks. Also on the docket will be the home track Mini Stocks, plus the Trailers Plus Ontario Legend Car Series and Ontario Bandoleros. Spectator gates open at 2:00, with racing at 4:00.
