RPW Exclusive: Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series Preview with last years Top 5 Drivers: Ronnie Williams
RPW Exclusive Column By: Stephen Durham / RPW – BOSTON, MA – We are just beyond the first race of the season for Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series, as they kicked off their season this past weekend at Thompson Speedway. As we head into the new season, we talked with the series top 5 drivers from 2025 and how they are feeling heading into the new season. Finishing 2nd last season with the Monaco Modifieds was Ronnie Williams.
It was a strong season for the 2019 Monaco Modified Tri-Track series champion, as he came within 38 points of eventual champion, Jon McKennedy. On the season, Williams had two top 5s, seven top 10s, and a best finish of 2nd twice over the season, one coming at Stafford Motor Speedway and the other at New London-Waterford Speedbowl. Williams will look to return to his winning ways in 2026, here are his thoughts on the season ahead.
Q: Overall thoughts on 2025, had a strong season, finishing 2nd in the championship standings?
Ronnie Williams: “2025, it was kind of like the tale of 2 stories. Didn’t start the year off very well, but kind of turned around at Seekonk and then was able to hit 3 good runs after that. Then go down and do Smyrna and win the championship and win the Richie Evans race. So we have good momentum and it’s nice to be, like, even when we’re off, which I felt like we were today, we were still at a top 5 car. So that’s encouraging, and the wins will come with this.
Q: You and your team’s expectations for 2026 with the Monaco Tour?
Ronnie Williams: “We always just want to win races. That’s where I don’t care if it’s here, this division or any division. Like we come to win races no matter what. So, yeah, our expectations are always high. which is a good thing. So, yeah, win races. ”
Q: What event on the series schedule are you looking forward to most?
Ronnie Williams: “I would say, just mainly like Thompson, like we’ve run really well at Waterford too. Honestly, all of them. I’m kind of disappointed. not going back to Thunder Road. That was one I really liked. It’s been really good to us, but Thompson Stafford, Waterford, all the Connecticut tracks. Those are always going to be us”
Q:Heading into this season, who in the series should people be watching?
Ronnie Williams: “Just the normal guys. I mean, I think Emerling’s running all of them, which is a big step up to the competition. I don’t think Hirschman is running any. So you kind of lose that tough battle(frees up Seekonk), like I hate Seekonk with a passion, but yeah, just the normal guys who, Jake Johnson, I’m sure, will be fast at the places he’s been fast at. Swanson, I’m sure is going to be good at certain places. So just the normal guys.“
Q: Who would you predict would be the series champion in 2026?
Ronnie Williams: “I would hope me. ”
The Monaco Modifieds Tri-Track Series continues their 2026 season at New London-Waterford Speedbowl Saturday May 23rd. The Monaco Modified race will be broadcasted live on North East Short Track Network(NESTN).
