Bubba Pollard Stands Tall as the King of Michigan at Owosso Speedway
Column By: ASA STARS NATIONAL TOUR – OVID, M.I. – When the dust settled in the heat of the Michigan night, Senoia, Georgia driver Bubba Pollard captured his third-career ASA STARS National Tour win.
This time the win came in the Michigan 300 at Owosso Speedway, the first visit to the Michigan track for Pollard. The victory also makes Pollard only the second driver to win races in all three seasons of the ASA STARS National Tour.
Pollard was in a mix among the leaders all night and survived the final restart on lap 298 to claim the victory.
Pollard led three times for 28 laps unofficially, but it was him dodging a wreck among the leaders on lap 297 that allowed him to score the win.
Following Pollard across the line were Dawson Sutton (Lebanon, TN), ASA STARS National Tour Point Leader Cole Butcher (Porter’s Lake, NS), who came from 16th to finish on the podium.
The wreck on lap 297 ended the bid for Carson Brown (New London, NC), who had survived several restarts as he took the lead on lap 287. Brown came to pit road and rebounded to finish fourth.
Brown was the lucky one as Gavan Boschele(Mooresville, NC) Blake Rowe (Ortonville, MI) and Derek Thorn (Bakersfield, CA) were also caught up in the wreck. Rowe and Thorn were done for the night and Boschele finished fifth.
The race was highly competitive as we saw twelve lead changes at the strip among six drivers. Kasey Kleyn (WA) led 56 laps and was on cruise control out front when a rash of yellows came out after lap 280. Kleyn was also sidelined in the lap incident.
Early in the day, Kyle Steckley won the CorvetteParts.net Pole award and led the first 110 laps of the race. An up-and-down night left him eighth at the finish, the last car on the lead lap.
The ASA STARS National Tour will have a few weeks off, but will return to action on Saturday, September 13th for the CorvetteParts.net Glass City 200 at the Toledo Speedway (OH).
