Story By: RACE OF CHAMPIONS – CHEMUNG, NY – The Race of Champions Modified Series will continue one of the Southern Tier’s most treasured traditions with the running of “The Night Before The Glen – Rod Spalding Classic” at Chemung Speedrome on Saturday, August 9.

The event honors Rod Spalding, a respected Modified driver who received the Sportsmanship of the Year award at Shangri-La Speedway in Tioga, N.Y., before suffering serious injuries at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, N.C. His legacy lives on through the work of the Spalding Foundation for Injured Drivers, which continues to support racers throughout the region.

Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa., currently leads the Race of Champions Modified Series standings, with fellow Northampton driver Austin Beers close behind. The two are locked in a fierce battle for the 2025 championship.

“It’s definitely an event we look forward to,” stated Hirschman. “It’s a big tradition and a big night at Chemung. We’ve had some good runs there in the past and we’ll be looking to have another. The Series keeps getting more competitive, and winning these races is always a challenge. We’ll be up for it at Chemung.”

In addition to the Modifieds, fans will be treated to a full night of racing action featuring the Race of Champions Late Model Series, the Race of Champions FOAR SCORE Four Cylinder Dash Series as part of the “RoC-In” Summer Tour, and the popular Chemung Hobby Stocks.
