Mason Hanel, Carson Kelchlin And Christian Peck Grab Chapel Hill Wins
Story By: STEVEN PETTY / CHAPEL HILL RACEWAY – GREAT VALLEY, NY – “Racin’ Mason” Mason Hanel from Clarence, NY won the main event for the Mighty TQ Midgets at Chapel Hill Raceway Sunday afternoon. Carson Kelchlin won the Sr Flat Karts, while Christian Peck brought home the victory in the WNY Champ Karts. Emton Disposal Group presented the racing action. The Wing Bar & Grill and ZET’s Italian Ice fed the crowd that was on hand.
Phil Vigneri III and Mark Schulz brought the Mighty TQ Midgets to the green flag for their 30-lap feature event, with Vigneri showing the way ahead of Brendan Wallace, Mason Hanel, Vinnie Christiano III, and Ronnie Flaim. The caution would come out for a Vinnie Christiano Jr spin on lap two. The restart green would see Vigneri and Wallace battling for the lead, with Wallace taking command of the field. Vigneri would spin on his own to bring out the caution. The ensuing restart would see Mason Hanel move into second place, with Christiano III, Schulz, and Flaim racing in the top five. Hanel would challenge Wallace for the lead for several circuits, with Hanel taking over the lead on lap 24. Josh Terwilliger spun to set up a green-white-checkered finish, which saw Hanel hold off Christiano III and Wallace to earn the victory.
Next race for the Mighty TQ Midgets will be taking place on Saturday, July 26th on the highbanks of Holland Speedway.
Carson Kelchlin and Bob Snyder were on the front row for the CHR Sr Karts event, with Kelchlin in the lead. Mike Page slowed in turn three to bring out the race’s first caution on lap 11. Kelchlin, who also won the qualifying heat races, would continue his dominance of the day, leading all 20-laps to earn the victory.
Christian Peck and Don Brzezowski competed in the WNY Champ Karts feature event, with Peck taking the early race lead. Peck would lead all 20-laps to earn the victory.
Racing action returns to the hill on Saturday, August 9 at 6pm featuring the Mighty TQ Midgets, plus Vintage TQ Midgets, Senior Flat Karts, Winged Champ Karts, the UAS, and Fireworks!
