Column By: CHARLES WISLER / RPW – ROCKINGHAM, NC – The roar of engines returned to Rockingham Speedway on Tuesday, January 28th, as NASCAR Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series vehicles took to the track for a sanctioned test session.

This marked the first time in about two decades that professional stock cars have circled the famed “Rock.”

The test session served as an important step in preparing teams for the upcoming racing season. Rockingham Speedway is set to host races for both the Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series on Easter weekend, April 18th and 19th.

The return of NASCAR to Rockingham follows a significant renovation project completed in 2022. The project included a complete repaving of the track surface, a key factor in bringing major racing back to the historic venue.

This revitalization effort was made possible thanks to the support of Governor Roy Cooper, who championed legislation that allocated funds to renovate racetracks across the state of North Carolina.

Racing fans in the region are undoubtedly excited to witness the return of NASCAR to Rockingham Speedway.

The upcoming races promise to be thrilling events, showcasing the skill and determination of some of the best drivers in the sport.
