Story By: DINO OBERTO / EVERGREEN RACEWAY – BUTLER TOWNSHIP, PA – The always thrilling and exciting Tour Type Modifieds will return to action at the paved 1/3-mile Evergreen Raceway this coming Sunday, August 18, contesting in a 50-lap/$2000-to-win main event.
On June 30 Northampton’s Matt Hirschman won the Tour Type Modified feature, notching his 52nd victory with the division at Evergreen. Hirschman knows if he wants to add yet another notch to his Evergreen win belt he’ll have to be prepared to face off against a stout field of counterparts which will indeed are always tough.
The Himmer Graphics Four Cylinders will also be running in a 25-lap feature. Current point leader BJ Wambold of Nazareth won for the second time this past Sunday in what was another barn-burner of a race with fans clinging to the edge of their seats until the checkers waved in determining the outcome.
It has been a recurring scene week after week with this class as the battles for not only the wins but throughout the field continue to make this a must-see-division.
The roar and rumble of the Rotten-and-Forgotten will be racing Sunday as also. Nowhere will you find such a unique group of racers that are so closely bonded in all they do. Yes their on track action is very fierce but off the track you will see each of them hustling back and forth to work on each other’s cars, which is why virtually the entire field will pull into Victory Lane to help celebrate the winner.
Back on track as well will be the McNulty Funeral Homes Novices. Connor Shotwell became the first repeat winner with his verdict on August 4 which also vaulted him back into the point lead. However, things remain very tight as Caitlyn Makarewicz, Sarabeth Mesko and Savannah Romig are hot on his heels and easily anyone of them could unseat Shotwell by the end of Sunday’s feature. Not to be overlooked are Abby McNulty and Lexus Kutz who have only added to the excitement of this great class.
During intermission the JuiceBox Division will take over the track.
Originally slated to run Sunday, the Harry’s U-Pull-It Street Stocks are being given the day off.
Pit gates will open at 10:30 am. Pit admission is $40 per person. Warm-ups will begin at 12:30 pm with heats starting at 2:00 pm. The main grandstands open at noon. Adult admission is $15, kids 12 and under are free.
A reminder that the postponed Late Model feature from August 11 will be run on Sunday, September 15, as part of twin features for the class. An additional Late Model feature has also been added to Sunday, September 29.
