Doug Coby Becomes Champion Of NASCAR Mod Tour’s Duel At The Dog At Monadnock

Story By: KYLE SOUZA / JDV PRODUCTIONS – WINCHESTER, NH – Doug Coby took the Tommy Baldwin Racing No. 7NY to NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Victory Lane on Saturday evening at Monadnock Speedway.

Driving the historic Modified entry, Coby dominated the majority of the second annual Duel at the Dog 200, earning a special bulldog trophy and the right to be called a champion of competition at New Hampshire’s high-banked oval.

In order to score his 35th career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win, the six-time series champion had to quickly move from his second row starting spot to the front, passing polesitter Justin Bonsignore for the lead and never looking back. Although a few second-half restarts challenged Coby, he wasn’t to be denied in the third race of the Whelen Modified Tour season and the first in New England.

“We had a dominant car here today,” Coby said. “Tommy Baldwin brought some great adjustments here to try in practice since we weren’t happy with our performance last year, and we ended up going back to his first setup for the race. I’ll tell you what – I’ve won at big tracks, but it’s the little one’s that mean the most and really make me think of my roots and where I started. These quarter-mile tracks are so tough to win at… it was a great day for all of us on the Mayhew Tools team.”

In other action on the track Saturday at Monadnock, Ty LeClerc picked up his first career NELCAR Legends Cars win, while Devin Deshaies bested the field in the Evolve Pro Truck Challenge 55-lap race. Colton Martin opened the day of action with a feature win in the Pure Stocks. Doug Meservey topped the Pro 4 Modifieds feature. Cody Hodgdon held off a hard-charging Tom Harwood in the final circuits to win the New England Dwarf Car Series season opener in their 25-lap feature. The only other Duel at the Dog champion on the day was Dan Cugini, who topped the 25-lap NEMA Lite race.

Racing returns to Monadnock Speedway on Sunday for JDV Productions on the final day of the second annual Duel at the Dog, headlined by a special 80-lap race for the NHSTRA Modifieds. Also in action on Sunday will be the NHSTRA Outlaws, NHSTRA Late Models, Mini Stocks, Six Shooters and Young Guns. Racing begins with qualifying heats at 1:45 p.m.

Following Sunday at Monadnock, the next event on the calendar for JDV Productions is the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Granite State Derby and additional divisions at Lee USA Speedway on Saturday, May 27.
