Doug Coby Looks To Rebound In NASCAR Modifed Tour Debut At Lancaster Saturday

Story By: KYLE SOUZA / DOUG COBY RACING – MILFORD, CT – Six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby will look to get back on track with the No. 10 Mayhew Tools Modified this Saturday, July 31, when the series makes their debut visit to New York International (Lancaster) Speedway in upstate New York.
Coby, a Milford, Connecticut, native, enters the race ninth in the championship standings with two wins in his first six tour starts of the year. Coby missed the Oswego Speedway event on June 12 to compete and win with the SRX Series at Stafford Motor Speedway, and has been trying to climb back in the driver standings. However, the last time out at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, motor issues sidelined Coby from the race early.
Entering a new track, which Coby knows will be a challenge for the entire team, Coby is chasing trophies — looking to win as many races as possible in the final half of the season. The Lancaster visit will be the first of two races in six days for the Whelen Modified Tour — with a return to Stafford Motor Speedway on the horizon for August 6.
“It’s fun to go to a couple of new tracks every year, and nice to have the challenge,” Coby said. “We’re going somewhere where a bunch of guys have experience and we don’t have any particular setup experience ourselves at the track. The first time we went to Oswego Speedway a few years ago, we went out there and won the race, and I had never seen the place, so we will see. From here out to the rest of the season, we’re just going to keep putting ourselves in position to win.”
A full race day schedule at Lancaster on Saturday includes the local Sportsman, Street Stocks and 4-Cylinders. The Whelen Modified Tour portion of the day includes practice from 2-3:15 p.m., followed by Mayhew Tools qualifying at 5 p.m. The green flag for the Nu-Way Auto Parts 150 is scheduled to drop at 8 p.m., live on TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold.
