
Story By: STEVEN PETTY / INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY PARK AT LANCASTER – LANCASTER, NY – The roar of stock cars will once again be heard at New York International Raceway Park at Lancaster Speedway & Dragway in 2021. After a successful practice session on May 22, the attention will shift to the season opener on Saturday, June 12.
The 2021 season will take its first green flag on Saturday, June 12 with the Sportsman, 602 Sportsman, Late Models, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, 4 Cylinders, and TQ Midgets all on the card. Action returns the following week on Saturday, June 19 with the Sportsman, 602 Sportsman, Late Models, Street Stocks, 4 Cylinders, and TQ Midgets.
Entering July, the first Thursday night race of the season will take place on July 1 for the Ol’ Boy Cup 60 for the Tour-Type Modifieds. It will be the first appearance of the season for the Tour-Type Mods at the famed Lancaster ½-mile oval. After a couple of weeks off, racing returns on Thursday, July 22 with the Sportsman Summer Slam 50. The 602 Sportsman, Street Stocks, 4 Cylinders, and TQ Midgets will be on the card. Nine days later will be the most anticipated race on the entire schedule for the stock car program, the inaugural visit by the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on Saturday, July 31. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will be joined by the Sportsman, Street Stocks, and 4 Cylinders. The show will be broadcasted via NBC Sports Gold Trackpass.
Thursday, August 5 will be Legends of Lancaster night featuring the Ken “Hurricane” Heckler 51 for the Street Stocks. The Sportsman, 602 Sportsman, 4 Cylinders, and TQ Midgets will all be on the racing card. Saturday, August 14 will be the popular Autograph Night with the Late Models returning along with the Sportsman, 602 Sportsman, Street Stocks, 4 Cylinders, and TQ Midgets. The Tour-Type Modifieds will return on Saturday, August 21st for the return of the Mr. Modified 75. That night will also feature the Street Stocks, 4 Cylinders, and TQ Midgets.
The month of September will feature the 33rd edition of the US Open Weekend September 10-12. The race schedule for the US Open will be announced in the coming weeks. The Tour-Type Modified 125 will headline the US Open with Late Models, Sportsman, 602 Sportsman, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, 4 Cylinders, and TQ Midgets will all be in action.
Scheduled to change, racing will begin at 6:30 pm on Saturdays with practice beginning at 4:00 pm. The Thursday night programs will start at 7:00 pm with practice beginning at 5:30 pm.
