Story By: JOHN DOUGLAS / RPW – DAYTONA BEACH, FL – NASCAR announced early Friday that the decision had been made to postpone both the Atlanta race weekend and next weekend’s Homestead-Miami Speedway event.
This follows a slew of sporting organizations who have ceased running events to help curtail the spread of COVID-19. (Novel Coronavirus)
In the statement released by NASCAR it was noted that the sanctioning body will continue to monitor the situation to make a determination on whether or not future events will be held on schedule.
NASCAR had planned to run both Atlanta and Homestead with no fans in attendance. However, this statement puts NASCAR in line with the NBA, NFL, MLB and other major sporting sanctions to err on the side of caution.
