Column By: BRITTANY NUTILE / RPW – LOUDON, NH – Going into the Full Throttle Weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Doug Coby is still the points leader of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, but he hs company nipping at his heels.
Coby’s company is in the form of Justin Bonsignore who is right behind him, just 19 points behind in second. This race, the Musket 250, will be the longest tour race of 2019 in the number of laps and is also a bigger purse than the Series usually races for.
There will be some old faces in different places this weekend at the “Magic Mile” and some new ones that don’t always drive regularly on tour. Andy Seuss will be driving the Dan Watts 82 machine for the big race. Chase Dowling, winner of the inaugural Musket 250 last year with the LFR house car, will be in the Jamie Tomaino-owned 99 car.
Burt Myers will be in his own #4 car for the big event at NHMS while Woody Pitkat will be driving the 1 car for Myers’ former team, EH Racing.
Last year’s Musket 250 was intense and exciting with Bonsignore and Ryan Preece, driving the 77 for Gary Putnam, fighting for the lead late and getting caught up with each other. Both ended up in the pits before the race was complete.
With only two tour races left after the Musket 250, plenty is on the line this weekend, especially with the points battle being so tight. This could be a make it or break it race for a lot of teams in the top five in the standings.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at NHMS this weekend is one of the biggest of any of the classes racing at Full Throttle weekend. It brings people from all over the Northeast and the country to come see the Modifieds do what they do best…put on an epic show.
The tour races are always very exciting wherever they run, and when they come to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, they seems to be just that little bit extra.
These competitors have intense restarts, great battles for position and if there’s a late race restart, watch out. Fans will definitely be on the edge of their seats shouting and rooting for their favorite driver to win in what may be one of the closest races in history..
