Story By: CAMDEN PROUD / OSWEGO SPEEDWAY – OSWEGO, NY – In addition to displaying the Jason Simmons Racing No. 98T in the ISMA booth at this weekend’s Motorsports Expo, last year’s ISMA Supermodified rookie of the year Tyler Thompson will also partake in TQ Midget action as part of the inaugural Syracuse Indoor Auto Race.
Held inside the New York State Fairgrounds Exposition Center, the first ever Syracuse Indoor event will be held Friday, March 8 and then again on Saturday, March 9 with two complete programs for the TQ Midgets, Slingshots, and Champ Karts.
Thompson, in only his second year racing TQ Midgets, has been a force on the indoor trail this season. After leading several laps of the Friday event, he earned a top ten effort in Allentown, PA back in January. The teenager also won his qualifying race to earn a spot into the Gambler’s Classic held in Atlantic City, NJ last month.
A Supermodified rookie one year ago, Thompson was the 2018 rookie of the year both on the ISMA trail and in the non-wing Supermodified division at Oswego Speedway. He earned his first career top five with ISMA at the Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park this past October.
If you are hoping to see Thompson’s Supermodified ride on display, stop by either day of the Motorsports Expo. The Indoor Auto Racing program will be held in conjunction with the Expo on Saturday, March 9 before it continues through Sunday afternoon, March 10. Thompson’s car will be in the ISMA booth for both days along with information pertaining to the 2019 season.
Admission to this year’s Syracuse Motorsports Expo will be $13 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12 years of age, and FREE for children under the age of five. A two day pass is available for $20. Expo hours will be 10am to 8pm on Saturday and 11am to 4pm on Sunday.
Indoor Auto Racing begins at 7:30pm on Friday night and 7:00pm for the Saturday finale. The Fairgrounds’ Exposition Center is just steps from the Center of Progress Building which plays host to the Motorsports Expo.
