Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / JASON SIMMONS RACING – OSWEGO, NY – The 2018 racing season continues for Tyler Thompson as the 17-year old Supermodified Rookie of the Year next moves to Greensboro, NC on December 14-15 for the annual King of the Concrete karting championship inside the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.
Just two weeks after scoring third place finishes in each of the PRO events at the NYS Indoor Karting Championships in Syracuse, Thompson will reunite with Slack Karts and Performance Manufacturing for a run at Greensboro’s top prize of $3,000.
“The King of the Concrete is a big event in karting,” said Tyler Thompson. “We had some success there last year with the Champ Kart, but are hoping to improve with the flat kart in the PRO events. Syracuse was a good start for us and I think we are heading in the right direction for this weekend.”
Thompson scored three podium finishes during last year’s King of the Concrete in the Champ division, including a win in Friday night’s Champ main event.
On Saturday, Thompson ran second in Clone Champ and third in the King of the Concrete Champ finale.
With the flat kart, Thompson was unable to qualify for the stout $3,000 to win King of the Concrete championship, but hopes to correct that in 2018.
Friday night’s action in Greensboro will see qualifying start at 7 p.m. with qualifying taking the green on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Following this weekend’s King of the Concrete, Thompson and Jason Simmons Racing will be focused solely on the Indoor Auto Racing Championship for TQ Midgets starting with the series’ opening event in Allentown, PA on January 4-5.
