Column By: BRITTANY NUTILE / RPW – THOMPSON, CT – John Zych Jr. got the NEMA Midget Win for World Series weekend at Thompson Speedway. Zych Jr started in the 10th position but had a very fast car, by lap 4 he was leading the race. His lap time was 17.671 seconds, a second in front of the second-place driver.
“I love coming to this track and the atmosphere, for pavement racing, this is it. We’ve been good here in the past but, we were on rails tonight. I was pretty much flat footed through one and two which is unreal.” Zych Jr Said after the race.
Bethany Stoehr got the pole for tonight’s NEMA feature for the World Series at Thompson Speedway. Todd Bertrand had a mechanical problem early in the race. Zych Jr was the class of the field the whole night.
On the restart Zych Jr had a good jump to get the lead again as he pulled away from Ben Seitz, the second-place car by quite a few car lengths. Alan Chambers had a problem at the back stretch, almost the same spot that Bertrand stopped. Zych Jr got the advantage again on the restart and launched his way to the lead in turn two. Pulling away from the Seitz once again.
Half way through the NEMA feature a good battle for 2nd place by Seitz and Points Leader Randy Cabral flared up, side by side for a couple laps, eventually Cabral took the 2nd position away from Seitz. There was another good battle for 3rd place coming down to the last lap by Seitz and Jim Chambers, Chambers getting the 3rd position at the checkered flag in a great battle all the way to the finish line
NEMA’s next race is Waterford, which is the last race of the season for NEMA. Randy Cabral is still your points leader going into the last race of the season.
