Story By: CAMDEN PROUD / OSWEGO SPEEDWAY – OSWEGO, NY – Novelis Supermodified veteran Pat Lavery has joined the list of 31 drivers pre-registered for the 62nd running of the Budweiser International Classic 200 set for Sunday, September 2.
After a part time effort in 2017 piloting the John Nicotra Racing No. 6 for two shows in August as well as for the 200, Lavery has been out of a ride all year long until just a couple of weeks ago when the three time Oswego winner purchased the No. 12 Xtreme Chassis from Graham Racing.
Lavery, who broke through with his first career victory at Oswego in June 2013 driving the Hoefer/Samuels double deuce, piloted the very same Supermodified he just purchased to his second and third career victories driving a full season for Graham Racing in 2016.
Showing speed all year long, Lavery carried his momentum into Classic Weekend by sitting on the outside pole for the Budweiser International Classic 200 with a lap of 16.189 seconds, but he was only able to manage a fourteenth place finish in the race.
Following his surprise purchase of the No. 12 car, Lavery became the thirty first registrant for this year’s Classic, now joining seventeen other former feature winners that will attempt to lock into the International Classic in top 18 qualifying set for Friday, August 31.
Fellow Oswego feature winners registered for Classic Weekend action currently include Joe Gosek, Brandon Bellinger, Jeff Abold, Tim Snyder, Jeff West, Dave Shullick Jr, Doug Didero, Davey Hamilton, Otto Sitterly, Aric Iosue, Bob Bond, Dave Gruel, Dave Danzer, Keith Shampine, Michael Barnes, Jerry Curran, and Shaun Gosselin; setting up for one of the more stout International Classic fields Oswego has seen in the past several years.
The speedway’s regular season concludes this Saturday night, August 18 when CNY CPR and Skip’s Fish Fry presents the $5 Admission Track Championship for the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS.
