Column By: BRITTANY NUTILE / RPW – THOMPSON, CT – Todd Bertrand took down the win in the 25-lap NEMA Midget feature at Thompson on Wednesday night that acompanied the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Bud King Of Beers 150.
Bertrand started the race from the sixth position, played it smart and had good strategy on restarts. The veteran was very strong when it came to restarts, never missing a beat when the green flag would fly.
There weren’t many cautions during the event, so a lot of competitors did everything they could to get good starts since they didn’t know if they would get another.
Thompson is considered Bertrand’s hometown so it was a great place to win at. He is consistent at the speedway, even winning in the beginning of this season.
“I’m glad we won this race,” he said. “With the amount of cautions we had, you just have to drive the car like you stole it.”
Jim Chambers finished in second after starting the event in 10th. It was a good run for Jim, but he didn’t have enough to take the lead from Bertrand. All-in-all, it was a successful day for him.
Cole Carter finished the race third after driving his way up from his ninth starting spot.
The next event for the NEMA Midgets will be Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl as part of Wings and Wheels. The Midgets and NEMA Lites will be back at Thompson for the Sunoco World Series Of Racing in October.
