Story By: DAVE BUCHANAN / LANCASTER SPEEDWAY – LANCASTER, NY – The month of June gets off to fast and furious start at Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway with six events in the first eight days.
LNS&D celebrates the start of June this Friday night (June 1) with the Buffalo Street Outlaws and the Franco’s Pizza IHRA Drag Racing program. The baddest rides in Western New York go head-to-head in the first visit of the year by the BSO plus Lancaster’s own weekly bracket racers are in action.
Saturday, June 2 is Double Wing Night for the X-Press Signs Stock Car Series featuring the International Supermodified Association and the Can-Am TQ Midgets. Last season a huge crowd saw the ISMA Supers make their first appearance at Lancaster in 14 years, and anticipation is high for the return of the fastest short track racers in the world.
Defending race winner, Trent Stephens of Ravenna, Ohio, leads the charge of ISMA stars invading Lancaster. He’ll be joined by defending ISMA champion Jon McKennedy, the “Rowley Rocket” Chris Perley, two-time Lancaster ISMA winner Dave McKnight, the “Shoe 2” Dave Shullick, Jr., Mike Ordway, Jr. and more.
The winged Can-Am TQ Midgets also make the return to Lancaster to tackle the tricky inner-oval. The Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks and Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinders round out the thrilling race card. Racing starts at 6:30 p.m.
The following week gets going with Advanced Auto Parts Tuesday Test & Tune and Wednesday Cruise Night on June 5 & 6. Tuesday Test & Tune is also where the next class of Friday Night IHRA drag racers can develop their skills with the Junior Dragster and Amateur Racing classes. The Junior Dragsters are celebrating their 25th year of racing with the kids on Tuesday nights, and the program has produced many drivers that race today as adults. The Amateur class is perfect for those that might be too old to drive a Junior Dragster, but still want to learn how to drag race.
Wednesday Cruise Nights are a fun family attraction at LNS&D. Whether you want to Grudge Race your ride down the strip, check out the cars on display on the oval or just enjoy some ice-cold Coca-Cola or beverages from the 12 Gates Brewing Beer Stand while watching the show, there is something for everyone on Wednesdays at Lancaster. General admission through the front gate is always free.
The stock cars are back in action on Thursday, June 7 with Thursday Night Thunder by the Thruway. This special midweek show was added to make up for the early season events that were canceled due to weather. The VP Racing Fuels Sportsman will finish their rain-delayed feature from May 19 plus run a full program with heats and a 35-lap feature. The Sportsman will be joined by Street Stocks and 4-Cylinders. Racing starts at 7 p.m.
Friday, June 8 is VIP Night for the Franco’s Pizza Drag Racing program. Any VIP passes from May 11 will be honored this night and everyone else can attend for just $5, following the national anthems. Top ET, McGard Mod, Hebeler’s Sales Bikes & Sleds and Tread City Tire Street will tackle the strip in weekly IHRA competition.
