Story By: RACE OF CHAMPIONS – NORTH EAST, PA – When the Race of Champions Modified Series hits the track on Saturday, June 9 there will be an additional lap money posted by the Loretto family in tribute to the late Pete Loretto.
Loretto’s daughter Melissa will once again being selling laps beginning at $25 per lap. In 2017 just under $2,000 was raised and paid out to driver’s who participated in the race with all 75-laps being sold. Loretto wanted to make sure her Father was remembered by all who knew him in the racing community.
“My Father’s real love was racing,” stated Loretto. “He was around it all of his life from a very young age until he left us. Our family felt that this was a great way to pay tribute to him and carry on his legacy. We are excited to be involved once again at Lake Erie and look forward to a great event.”
Loretto, a long-time racing enthusiast, who passed in 2016, was one of the most familiar tracks through the Western New York and Pennsylvania regions. He served as an official, media member and more importantly was a huge fan which built the tremendous amount of personal racing memories he accumulated over the years. Besides being involved in the local short track racing, Loretto was a family man, retired highway supervisor, firefighter and emergency disaster coordinator.
