Story By: CAMDEN PROUD / PROUD MOTORSPORTS – OSWEGO, NY – After setting the clocks forward this past weekend, northeast race teams know its a sign that time is quickly running out to finish their cars ahead of the 2018 season and that is no exception at Proud Motorsports, where preparation is taking place for team owner Tim Proud’s return to the driver’s seat two months from today.
After an Oswego Speedway return nine years removed from racing in September 2016 which brought a heat win and the fastest lap of the Oswego native’s on track career, Proud competed in his first feature event since 2004 this past September at the Evans Mills Speedway where he drove to a ninth place finish. In two short months, Proud will return to action with the Step One Creative No. 54 driven regularly by his son Camden at Oswego, when the Lighthouse Lane SBS Series invades New York State’s ‘North Country’ for just the second time in history on Saturday, May 12.
“We’ve been busy preparing the new body for Oswego as well as getting things back in order for the Evans Mills series opener in May,” Proud said. “We’re looking forward to unveiling the new look to the car at Camden’s Chicken BBQ in April before we switch back over to the flat back for the out of town shows. The car was really competitive last September and after running up front for awhile in the Fall Brawl, we hope we can be right back up there and contend for the win. ”
May 12 will mark what will only be Proud’s third non-Oswego sanctioned Small Block Supermodified start. In 2004, the ‘94 SBS rookie drove his brother Chris’s car to a heat race victory and a fifth place finish in the main event as part of a NORA-sanctioned Race of Champions show at Oswego. Proud has two heat wins in non-Oswego sanctioned shows coupled with his two top ten finishes.
This season will also mark the first time that Proud Motorsports has raced with two entirely different schemes on the same car, which is powered by a recently freshened engine from Doug Holmes at Finger Lakes Machine.
The 2018 Camden Proud Chicken BBQ Fundraiser is set for Sunday, April 8th at Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego. Pre-sale tickets are available for the price of $10 and include a choice of either a chicken bbq or pulled pork dinner as well as a side and dessert. Several raffle items, door prizes, lotto boards, giveaways, entertainment and more all planned as part of the event located inside the Hall of Fame Lounge at Lighthouse Lanes.
To pickup a pre-sale ticket, be sure to stop at either Ken’s Body Shop or Step One Creative during the months of February and March. The fundraiser will run from 1pm until sold out on April 8th, but all pre-sale orders must be picked up by 2pm in order for remaining dinners to be sold.
