Story By: CAMDEN PROUD / OSWEGO SPEEDWAY – OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Speedway will have its presence felt at this weekend’s ‘Finger Lakes Speedworld’ at the Fingerlakes Mall in Auburn, N.Y. which will take place this Saturday and Sunday March 3 and 4.
As part of the event, speedway veteran Barry Kingsley will have his beautiful No. 91 Small Block Supermodified on hand both days from 10am to 6pm. Kingsley will be joined by Jamie Moore with the restored 1976 Jim Shampine radical offset Supermodified.
Kingsley has two feature wins and twelve top five finishes in his dedicated Oswego career and will be returning for his thirteenth season of action in 2018 aiming for a full-time campaign for the track championship with support from Lakeside Property Services, Ashley Lynn Winery, Team Tapout, and more.
The ‘76 Shampine radical offset is one of the most successful Supermodifieds in Oswego’s history. The car has 20 feature wins, including when the ‘8-ball’ won eleven features in a row in 1978, seven features plus the track championship in 1979, as well as the 1980 Budweiser International Classic 200. In 2014, Moore, who was the last to compete with the car in 1991, restored the legendary piece to its 1980 livery. The car paced the field for the 2014 International Classic.
Finger Lakes Speedworld is free to the public with no admission charges. The Fingerlakes Mall is located at 1579 Clark Street Road in Auburn, NY, 13021.
Oswego Speedway’s 68th season of racing begins with the first ever running of the Jim Shampine Memorial Twin 50’s for the Novelis Supermodifieds alongside the 35-lap Tony White Memorial main for the Pathfinder Bank SBS on Saturday, May 26. To purchase tickets, please call (315)-342-0646.
Season tickets, camping packages, and more are all on sale as part of Oswego Speedway’s 2018 schedule. Tickets and camping passes can be picked up in the speedway office from 11am to 4pm on Saturdays. The box office will return to normal hours this April.
